Listen ! What do Women want?

This piece takes the theme of giving women a voice literally. Audio recordings have been made of women of varying ages, backgrounds and speaking a variety of languages. They are asked simply to describe what they want. Their replies are then  blended with audio clips of the same women reading passages from key texts from the Womens Library relating to the womens suffrage movement.

All of the women recorded live in London. This mix of the present day aspirations and concerns of women with the historic struggle for women to attain equality is replayed within the exhibition itself on a cycle of random playback so as to mix the juxtaposition of the elements further - they can also soon be heard via the link here.
